About this deal

I’m thinking, how does this older woman, whom looks like a typical southern grandmother sitting on a front porch reading a bible, get a job doing this and have this much experience and knowledge.

R-11: Trichlorofluoromethane also called freon-11, CFC-11, or R-11, is a chlorofluorocarbon. It is a colorless, faint ethereal, and sweetish-odor liquid that boils around room temperature. (23.77 °C) If there are a lot of knobs with different sizes, you might even want to make a diagram on a sheet of paper, and tape each knob where it belongs, on the diagram. I had some daughter boards come out of thermal cycle and I was having problems with them passing test. My thought was, cheap, bad connectors warped during all those hot/cold cycles. the company had this woman, I know for a fact she was over 70, that had worked with the company forever, like, employee #1 or something, before I was born I know, and her job, no sh!t, was to do detail solder repairs on stuff others messed up and could not do, I’m talking repairing 8mm traces, replacing vias, components, on 4 layer PCBs. Stuff that should go into the trash but was waaaaay to expensive to scrap. And as with all procedures there will be those who will recommend Faderlube or D100 (100% deoxit) only for the rotary pots to be safest.

Look forward for this being an all in one thread with people sharing tips instead of getting a little here and there.May be used where fast evaporation and/or non-flammability is required, and no dripping is preferred. It is also safe on plastics.

Remove the screws that are holding on the top cover, and put them safely aside in a small paper cup or dish or something, as you remove them, so they won't be lost. Label that container ("top cover screws") and set it where you won't spill it or lose it. Lift off the cover and set it aside in a safe place where it is out of your way but you can find it again. IMPORTANT REMINDER: You DO NOT USE DeOXIT OR ANY OTHER CLEANER ON RELAYS!!! Just dry clean them with paper (or very, very fine sandpaper/emery paper). Improves connector performance/reliability. Temperature range: -34 to +200oC. Spray, adjustable valve (L-M-H) – Flushing Action, and Safe on Plastics. DeoxIT7 D100L concentrate has approximately 20% chemical cleaning action. Excellent cleaning/deoxidizing, good protection, no ozone depletion. In any case, if you plan to do further troubleshooting, you may wish to plug in and turn on your receiver before re-attaching the casing, to try it out. I you do this, remember that there is dangerous live current inside it, and don't touch anything inside, except the usual controls and such on the outside that you would touch anyway in normal use. Also, if you have the case off, make sure nothing foreign (like a screwdriver shaft, pipe cleaner, etc...) is touching anything inside the receiver. If you accidentally short anything out, you may not only hurt yourself, but you may easily "fry" parts of the receiver. MOST OF THE TIME, you'll be fine just leaving the relays alone, so you may want to skip this if it intimidates you, but as long as you can get the case open easily, it is worth doing.
